Kuehnert’s Auction Gallery of Houston, Texas held its first annual Art and Antique Appraisal Day in Houston in November 2007 for an enthusiastic crowd of collectors, individuals with family heirlooms, garage sale junkies, and the plain old curious, all wanting to know the history and value of their treasures.

Kuehnert’s partnered with Houston PBS Channel 8 to bring the finest appraisers in Houston to the table along with interior designer Bill Stubbs who is currently producing the television program “A Moment of Luxury” for PBS.  One hundred percent of the proceeds from each appraisal were donated to Houston PBS 8.

“We had a most interesting appraisal day,” said Patricia Kuehnert, owner of Kuehnert’s Auction Gallery. “Beautiful porcelain, vintage newspapers, Japanese prints, a first edition book, 18th century silver, and other wonderful items became a virtual history lesson for the owner, as these amazing appraisers shared their expertise with our guests and gave them a verbal appraisal,” she added. “We’re also very excited about our partnership with Houston PBS Channel 8 and we’re already planning a Spring 2008 Appraisal Day,” Kuehnert said.

As visitors waited in line for their appraisals, they were treated to the first episode of “Moment of Luxury” and a brunch buffet. Stubbs signed copies of his book, “I Hate Red, You’re Fired”, which were provided by Barnes & Noble.

“We are so enthusiastic about our partnership with Kuehnert’s,” said Jack Neal, Houston PBS Station Manager. “Antiques Roadshow has developed a huge audience over the past decade so we know that the interest in family heirlooms and collectibles is important to our viewers.”

The team of appraisers from Houston included; Sibley Kopmeier, of Sibley Kopmeier Appraisal Associates, Shelley Sandler, ISA, GG, of Shelley Sandler, Inc., personal property appraisers, Penny Millican, of Town and Country Estate Sales, and Beth Szescila, ISA CAPP. Szescila has appraised nationwide for PBS’s popular “Antiques Roadshow” since its first season 12 years ago.

“People are increasingly aware and curious about family and acquired old treasures,” said Kopmeier. “Maybe it’s because we’re living in such a disposable society and few things have staying power,” she added.  Kopmeier said some of the more interesting items included a first edition book by Thornton Wilder, ornate French antique silverplate dishes, framed contemporary German lithographs, and a charming Victorian cruet set.
